Susan McCulloch has written on Raft Artspace's exhibition Paint, featuring the work of Makinti Napanangka, Aida Tomescu, Ildiko Kovaks and Eubena Nampitjin for the second issue of new magazine Art World.
As the controversial Bill Henson images on the cover and interior of the magazine led to the June-July issue being pulped, Paint is now the cover story.
The State Library of Victoria has awarded the inaugural Dr Joseph Brown AO OBE Fellowship of $20,000 to curator and writer Rodney James to research and produce a manuscript for an illustrated book of edited letters to and from Alan McCulloch AO.
The award was announced by the The State Library as one of its prestigious suite of Fellowships, worth a total of $185,000. The Fellowships assist Australian writers, academics, artists, composers and researchers in their artistic and intellectual endeavours.
Seven Creative Fellowships were awarded, each worth between $12,500 and $25,000. Three Honorary Fellowships were also awarded.
The McCulloch Archive was acquired by the SLV from the McCulloch family progressively from 2000-2002 and comprises more than 6000 letters, manuscripts and other writings by, to and from Alan, over a more than 60 year period. Library assessor, Ken Hince, described the collection, which includes correspondence from most of Australia's artistic figures from the 1920s to Alan's death in 1992 as 'particularly dense and rich' and one which covers all aspects of Australian and much international art over this extensive period.
We congratulate Rodney, senior curator of the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery , of which Alan was founding director, on his achievement and look forward to working with him on this important project.
McCulloch & McCulloch is proud to announce the publication of The Heart of Everything: The Art and Artists of Mornington and Bentinck Islands, by Nicholas Evans, Louise Martin-Chew and Paul Memmott, in partnership with Mornington Island Arts and Craft.
